FAQ
What oil does the Honda NX500 take, and how much?
SAE 10W-30 motorcycle oil to JASO MA, API SJ or higher. The NX500 takes about 2.6 litres with a filter change and 2.4 litres without. The CB500F and CBR500R take about 2.7 litres with a filter change.
How often should I change the oil and filter?
First oil change at 1,000 km (600 miles). After that, change the oil every 12,800 km (8,000 miles) or every year, and the filter every 25,600 km (16,000 miles). Don’t overfill.
When do the valve clearances need checking?
Every 25,600 km (16,000 miles). The valves are shim-type. Cold clearances are 0.16 ± 0.03 mm intake and 0.27 ± 0.03 mm exhaust.
What chain and sprockets does the NX500 use?
A 15-tooth front sprocket, a 41-tooth rear sprocket and a 520 O-ring chain with 112 links. Chain slack is 30-40 mm on the NX500 and 25-35 mm on the CB500F and CBR500R.
What is the difference between the NX500 and the CB500X?
The NX500 replaced the CB500X and keeps the same 471cc twin with an updated ECU. It adds Honda Selectable Torque Control, a 5-inch TFT screen, lighter wheels, new LED lights and revised suspension, and is about 3 kg lighter.
